Erik Bulatov is the second most expensive сontemporary Russian artist (after Ilya Kabakov) and one of the leaders of Moscow non-conformist art. He moved to New York in 1998 and since 1991 he lives and works in Paris. Before his emigration he worked as an illustrator in Moscow and in 1970s joined the Moscow Conceptualist movement where he worked alongside Ilya Kabakov. Erik Bulatov is mainly associated with oil on canvas Sots art works, bringing together standard natural landscapes with large slogans and symbol of Soviet propaganda.
